Americano pickleball generator (rotating partners)
Updated 30 October 2026
An Americano is the rotating-partner format: everyone plays with a different partner each round, against different opponents, and keeps their own points. The player with the most points wins. It is the easiest way to run a social night where people arrive on their own.

How the pairings are chosen
Each round the generator first decides who sits out (whoever has sat out least), then pairs partners to avoid anyone playing with the same person twice, then sets opponents to spread match-ups. With 8 players and 7 rounds, every player partners every other player exactly once.
Scoring
Play each game to a fixed number of points (often 11, or 21 in the padel tradition) or for a fixed time. Each player banks the points their side scored. Ties in the final table go to games won, then best single game. The Americano rules guide covers the details and variants, including Mexicano.
Running it in the app
Pick Americano, paste the names, set the number of rounds and generate. Each round is paired as you go, late arrivals join the rotation, and the standings show total points. Ending early is fine: Finish now crowns the leader.
Questions
What is an Americano in pickleball?
A rotating-partner format where each player has a new partner every round and keeps their own points. Most points wins.
What if the number of players isn't a multiple of 4?
The extra 1 to 3 players sit out each round, chosen fairly, and each is given that round's average score.
How many rounds should an Americano have?
Enough for everyone to partner most others: one fewer than the number of players is ideal, but 6 to 8 rounds fits a two-hour session.
